Dialogue With John the Baptist

(Do you have a John the Baptist in your life? Are you being a John the Baptist to those around you?)

John: (Loudly, while entering room) Repent ye! For the kingdom of heaven is at hand! For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Isaiah, saying, "The voice of one crying in the wilderness, 'Prepare ye the way of the Lord! Make His paths straight!'"

Bob: Excuse me, sir, but aren't you getting a little carried away? By the way, who are you?

John: My name is John the Baptist, the voice of one crying in the wilderness, "Prepare ye the way of the Lord!"

Bob: So you have said! And what, may I ask, are you doing? Can't you calm down a little?

John: I came for a testimony, to bear witness to the light, that all might believe through Him. I baptized Jesus and this is my testimony that this is the Son of God. I must prepare the hearts of the people to receive Him. Repent! Behold the Lamb of God which taketh away the sins of the world!

Bob: Thank you, John, for sharing these words with us./p>

The testimony of John the Baptist played an important part in preparing many to receive Jesus. Do you have a John the Baptist in your life? Can you think of someone whose testimony and witness has helped prepare your heart to receive Jesus? There are those of you who have received Him. And there are those of you who have not received Him yet. Try to think of someone (maybe more than one person) whose testimony and witness really has worked on you. Maybe it was their love, their compassion, their understanding.

2 Peter 3:9. From this verse we can assume two things. It is against God's will for you to remain unsaved and perish. Also, it is God's will for you to be saved.

Ezekiel 33:11. It does not please God to see the unsaved plunge into hell, although many will because they choose to reject Christ. "God is not willing that any should perish." What pleases God?

1 Samuel 12:22. It brings God great pleasure to make you His children. And He has, even before the foundation of the world (Revelation 13:8) provided you an opportunity to become His child.

You see, the path of redemption leads to Jesus. And you can bring God great pleasure by receiving Him and thereby becoming His child. See John 1:11; 1 John 3:1; 2 Corinthians 6:17b-18. Oh, to be a child of God!!

You might be thinking, "Mr. Bob, I can't stand it any longer. I want to receive Jesus. I want to become His child. How do I do it?

Present the Plan of Salvation

If you have not yet received Jesus into your heart, why don't you? Revelation 22:17. I'm going to give you that opportunity in a moment.

Christians, I have a word for you. Are you being a John the Baptist to those around you? Are you sharing with them your testimony, your witness? Are you opening to them the Wonderful Words of Life (God's Word, the Bible) so that they, too may live?

Are you cultivating and preparing their heart to receive Jesus? Let this be your opportunity to re-dedicate yourself to the command to evangelize. Ask God to give you a burden for those around you.
